Is the i7 965 only 2x as faster then the sempron per core in the same benchmark?

Ok i am in shock because the core i7 is so much much much much much more cache then the sempron, it has much more fsb a better archietecture and still 1 of its processors is only 2x as fast. Because in cinebench r10 multi threaded the i7 is 12 x as fast and in cinebench r10 single threaded its only 2x as fast. Is this true? Is the i7 only 2x as fast per core? I thought the core i7 would be like 5 times as fast per core.
